Founded in 1994, Al-Kahhal Medical Services Company has been a pioneer in ophthalmology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, tracing its inspiration back to Ali bin Issa Al-Kahhal, one of the most influential figures in the history of Arab medicine. Today, Kahhal Eye Center in Dammam stands as a state-of-the-art, JCIA-accredited facility that continues this legacy and Horizons: Architects & Engineers is proud to have designed it from concept through IFT across all disciplines.

Our design vision broke away from the cold, clinical look of conventional healthcare facilities. Instead, we introduced a warm, human-centered aesthetic that reflects the welcoming nature of Saudi hospitality. The façade and interiors combine natural tones, textured finishes, and daylight-optimized spaces, while an urban living roof integrates greenery into the building’s identity, enhancing both visual appeal and environmental performance.

This was a project where precision and coordination were non-negotiable. Through joint ventures with our partner offices in Saudi Arabia, we implemented remote collaboration workflows, complete with tracker sheets, consolidated reporting systems, and strict timeline management to ensure flawless delivery — despite the geographic distance.

Kahhal Eye Center is more than a medical facility. It is a landmark of comfort, efficiency, and excellence in patient experience seamlessly blending advanced healthcare standards with a warm architectural touch that feels inherently Saudi.
